David joined Hayden Consultants, Inc. in September 2009. A Registered Professional Engineer since 2001, David holds multiple TxDOT precertifications. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Michigan State University and a Master’s Degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University.
David’s background in traffic engineering and transportation planning includes a wide range of project experience, serving both public- and private-sector clients. He specializes in traffic operations, traffic signal timing, traffic control systems, and transportation planning from an operational perspective.
Before joining Hayden Consultants, David worked with Kimley-Horn and Associates from 1997 to 2009, in Dallas and Fort Worth, and as a graduate research assistant at the Texas Transportation Institute from 1996 to 1997. He has more than 12 years of experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning, spanning a wide range of project types.
His traffic engineering experience includes evaluation of traffic signal systems, development and implementation of coordinated traffic signal timing plans, advanced traffic management system feasibility studies, traffic operation evaluations, intersection improvements, speed zone development, and traffic impact studies. David’s transportation planning experience includes corridor studies, thoroughfare planning, access management, roadway impact fees, roadway planning for site development, cut-through and traffic calming studies, and capital improvement prioritization studies. For many planning-related projects, he brings the traffic engineering aspect to the project, quantifying potential benefits from an operational perspective.
David is currently serving as vice-president and president-elect (2009) of the Greater Dallas Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, for which he served as secretary-treasurer in 2008. David served for five years on the City of Carrollton’s Traffic Advisory Committee and is currently serving his second term on the City of Carrollton’s Capital Improvements Advisory Committee. He is a member of the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Sustainable Public Rights-of-Way Subcommittee of the Public Works Council.
