James AllenJames joined Hayden Consultants in 2002 as Design Manager and as one of its first employees.

He came to Hayden after serving as production manager and senior hydrologist for Dannenbaum Engineering Corporation. James’ career began at Halff Associates where he worked from 1983 to 1991.

James has civil engineering experience managing and directing public works and private development projects from conception to design and construction throughout Texas. His experience includes designing and preparing construction plans for roadway, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and utilities infrastructure improvements; hydrology and hydraulic analysis; writing construction specifications; inspecting construction; and providing construction management services.

James is also experienced in designing municipal roadway projects. He has designed horizontal alignments, split grade vertical alignments, retaining wall layouts, storm water drainage and storm sewer pipe systems, signing, pavement marking, traffic control and erosion control.

During his career James has prepared storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP); designed stream bed scour protection, stream relocations, small dams, and artificial wetlands; as well as modeled streams for the process of meeting all FEMA requirements. He has also has performed numerous hydrology and hydraulic analysis utilizing HEC-1, HEC-2, HEC-RAS, SWFHYD, and THYSYS.

As a utility coordinator for transportation projects, James has experience working with municipally owned and local franchise utility companies to verify the location and size of existing utilities to prepare existing utility composite drawings using as-built maps, field survey information and subsurface utility information. With his many years of experience he can accurately depict the locations of existing utilities on construction drawings and for timely and accurate resolution of utility conflicts.

James received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 1983. He is a member of the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA).
