The project involved the creation 1st major reservoir in Texas in 30 years. Our team evaluated 27 existing county road bridge replacements to be either reconstructed, left in place or closed to accommodate the new lake; the 27 were narrowed to 9 crossings to be replaced. HCI provided field investigations, hydrology using ARCMAP ARC-Hydro to delineate the drainage basins and ARC MAP GEORAS to create new HECRAS models by merging the existing aerial LiDAR with the new survey at each creek, which tied into an overall unsteady state HECRAS model. HCI worked with the construction manager at Risk (CMAR), NTMWD, structural and roadway designers by providing freeboard and velocity at each crossing. HCI created existing and multiple proposed conditions hydraulic models, along with scour to provide options for erosion control such as dumped rock riprap, gabion mattresses and articulated block. The 404 Permit was accepted for this project in early February 2018. Construction will be complete by 2022.
